Pay: $25 - $30 an hour

THE ROLE:
Skillcity is looking for a Program Facilitator to serve as the success coach for youth at our STEM & Career Exploration Lab (STEMCEL). The role involves program planning and development, student engagement, using equipment such as 3D Printers and Virtual Reality Headsets, liaising with schools, and engaging industry professionals and volunteers.
DUTIES:
Demonstrate positive and practical classroom/group management skills
Ensure an appropriate and inclusive environment for individual and collaborative learning and development
Prepare and implement project-based learning activity plans and effectively use career exploration tools covering required STEM-focused skill-building activities.
Facilitate on-site, and off-site STEM industry based activities to inspire, motivate, engage and encourage students to develop STEM literacy and consider STEM-based careers;
Design or use provided training content to prepare young people for the world of work or help them develop entrepreneurial skills;
Use diversified teaching techniques to engage different learner types and levels.
Maintain decorum among students, ensure discipline and discourage inappropriate behavior and bullying
Ensure active participation of students with fun, engaging and practical activities that make their school subjects come alive in practical ways they can easily understand;
Learn how to operate and engage students with the STEM Lab equipment and gadgets, such as the 3D printer, Virtual Reality headsets, robotics devices, etc.
Over volunteer engagement and assign them roles and tasks;
Engage industry experts as mentors and role models, and plan field trips and workplace tours
Conduct engagement with schools/career/STEM clubs and communicate with specific and targeted programs to engage more community youth in activities.
Encouraging students to build and enrich their portfolios by taking courses, micro-credentials, and completing projects that can be showcased as evidence of their skill-sets.
Provide one-on-one success coaching and create individualized action plans to get NEET youth on track for further education, apprenticeship, or employment.
Conduct assessment of student comprehension of learning through timely quizzes and assignments.
Design feedback channel to receive information for the improvement of the STEM-CEL Lab.
Track students' attendance and activities and submit a weekly/monthly report on progress, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.
Complete other tasks assigned by the project lead and liaise with other team members.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree completed in Education, Information Technology, Career development, or other STEM-related fields.
2-3+ years' experience in STEM Education or Career guidance counseling, Success coaching is preferred.
Previous experience with youth-serving organizations and with socioeconomically diverse populations preferred
Excellent training and facilitation skills, especially with learning through play.
Excellent organization, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Understanding of group/club facilitation and individual/student engagement.
Good reporting, technical, and analytical skills.
Keen interest in working in an industry that focuses on building youth futures
ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
Must be located in Edmonton, have a vehicle and a clean driving record, and be able to drive to local sites to facilitate sessions as needed (travel costs covered).
