Youth Engagement Coordinator (youth development coordinator)

TIME COMMITMENT: 30/hrs a week for 9 weeks (with some flexibility available)

HOURLY RATE: $23

Skillcity Institute, on behalf of the Edmonton Youth Economic Ecosystem Collaborative (EYEEC), is looking to hire young people between the ages of 15 to 30 to fulfill a total of four Youth Engagement Coordinator roles to lead a city-wide youth engagement process and work to ensure the voices of diverse young people are heard and reflected in any resulting recommendations or strategy.

Skillcity’s focus is on building accessible programming to support and empower disadvantaged young people from vulnerable racialized and underserved communities, facing multiple systemic barriers preventing them from realizing their full potential in education, employment, and enterprise. We understand that in order to truly change the odds of our vulnerable young people, it is our responsibility to form relationships and collaborate with other organizations to deliver collective impact initiatives and create better socioeconomic development opportunities for youth.

 

THE ROLE:

The Youth Engagement Coordinator will complete the required tasks and functions including, but not limited to, planning, outreach, marketing, coordination with youth and youth-serving agencies, collection of data, and creating data summaries.

 

DUTIES:

  1. Willingness to receive training in the following areas to increase skills and practice those skills during the project: Community Development, Engaging Vulnerable Youth, Trauma-Informed Community Engagement, etc.

  2. Together with the Edmonton Youth Economic Ecosystem Collaborative (EYEEC) Steering Committee members and other youth, develop a meaningful engagement strategy and implement, and evaluate

  3. Together with EYEEC Steering Committee members and other youth, develop surveying tools, focus group agendas and questions, and 1-on-1 interview questions for youth

  4. Coordinate with youth, schedule, and facilitate youth engagement focus groups and 1-on-1 interviews

  5. Together with EYEEC Steering Committee members, summarize all data collected (either through surveys, focus groups, or 1-on-1 interviews) and present information back to YEG Youth Employment Collaborative Steering Committee members

  6.  Provide peer on peer mentorship to youth if/when needed

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A combination of post-secondary and/or experience working with peers/youth will be considered

  2. Good to excellent communication skills — oral and written, including grammar and proofreading

  3. Computer skills required - Google Suite, Microsoft Suite or willingness to learn these skills

  4. Confident in using internet-based applications (i.e Google Meets, Zoom, Google Jamboard, Mural, for facilitating online discussion)

  3. Self-motivated and creative thinker

  4. Marketing experience and or training an asset

  5. Able to meet deadlines

  6. Good time management and organizational skills

  7. Able to report results and progress in a concise & professional manner
